How I Met My Soulmate by Amber Normand

Three and a half years ago, I was preparing for my last semester of college. I had my whole life planned and my whole life ahead of me. I was going to have an awesome career, move 2 hours away and eventually get married and have a family, but I wasn’t worried about that part at the time. Never did I imagine that those plans wouldn’t go exactly the way that I’d planned.

I remember this time in my life like it was yesterday. I needed a college elective class and didn’t want to take the one that I signed up for (it had nothing to do with my major), but I had to have something, so I went along with it any way. I kept noticing this guy in my class (because of his handsomeness of course!), but never really found the courage to speak to him. Eventually, he moved to the desk right beside mine and introduced himself. “Hi, I’m Adam. ” I found out that he was actually a part-time police officer in the town that I lived in, lived about 30 minutes from me and knew my best friend. “Why haven’t I ever seen him before?” I thought to myself. The semester came and went. I graduated and moved 2 hours away. Adam and I talked periodically on Facebook. One weekend I went back to my hometown to visit my family and received a call from Adam. He was visiting a friend and asked me to come over. I hesitated, but then said to myself “Sure, why not? I have nothing planned.” We spent time together that night laughing and having a great time. Upon my return to the city that I was now living in, I couldn’t stop thinking about him. I told by best friend that I had a huge crush on Adam and of course, she told him. We started texting and talking on the phone a lot. As time went on, I decided that it was for the best if I moved home. I was lonesome in the new city that I lived in and everyone and everything was back home.

The rest is history. We got engaged on May 11, 2013. I did not see it coming and was completely surprised when Adam asked me to marry him. It was 3 days before our 2 year anniversary. Adam graduated from the police academy in November 2012. After months of trials and tribulations, we made it. I am now the fiancé of a police officer. It’s a life different than most, but I cannot imagine it any other way. I am glad that the life that I’d originally planned didn’t work out in my favor. Adam has brought so much joy to my life and has shown me what true love really means. He has stood by me through thick and thin and supported me in every goal that I have ever wanted to achieve. He is my rock and my hero.

Our wedding is September 20, 2014. We cannot wait to stand in front of our friends and family and share the love that we have for each other. I will forever believe that he is an angel who was sent to me at the perfect time in my life. Thank you Adam for everything that you do for me and for us. I cannot wait to say “I do!”
