How Will You Take Your Wedding Selfie?

Reception wedding selfie

Last year’s Oxford Dictionary Word of the Year was selfie – a photograph that one has taken of oneself, typically one taken with a smartphone or webcam and uploaded to a social media website. What started out as a slang term only used occasionally on social media and photosharing sites such as MySpace and Flickr has since become part of popular culture’s everyday vernacular. From Ellen DeGeneres’ star-studded Oscar selfie to wedding selfies with the Pope to this strangely catchy song titled #SELFIE by The Chainsmokers, there is no question that the rise in popularity of high-quality cell phone cameras will only lead to more selfies on the internet.

The wedding selfie has become so ingrained in modern weddings that it’s nearly impossible to attend a wedding these days without being included in not one, but multiple selfies. Before portable cameras were so ready accessible, wedding traditions involved throwing rice in celebration, tying tin cans to the bumper of the car and having something old, something new, something borrowed and something blue. Couples are even including a wedding-specific hashtag for their guests to use on social media so that it’s easy to see all the different selfies taken at the event.

We want to know – how will you take your wedding selfie? Will you and your bridesmaids pose in the bathroom for the traditional mirror shot? Or will you all squeeze into the backseat of your limo and use your phone’s front-facing camera to get the perfect Instagram photo? When will you take your first selfie as husband and wife – at the altar after you say “I do”? Or will you hold off until the reception to snap the first Mr.-and-Mrs. selfie? There are so many opportunities to take selfies throughout the day, from getting ready to the ceremony and reception. To help get your creative juices flowing, here’s a collection of some of our favorite wedding selfies.
